Flooding is a common condition
along the Sandusky River, which begins north of Galion, Ohio, and
empties into Sandusky Bay and then Lake Erie, north of Fremont. The
flood of 1913 is generally considered to be the worst in terms of
damage done, with 7.2 inches of rain falling between March 23 and
March 27. The heavy rains caused damage throughout Ohio and the Midwest.
The Sandusky River in Fremont crested nearly seven feet higher than
any previously-recorded measurement, and over four feet higher than
the flood of 1959.
