A
talented artist, McPherson sketched and drew from childhood.
Sardis Birchard, one of Northwest Ohio's wealthiest
and most prominent pioneers, used his influence with
Congressman Rudolphus to gain McPherson an appointment
to the United States Military Academy. Justifiably proud
of McPherson's achievements and class ranking upon graduation,
Birchard asked for one of his drawings. McPherson was
only too happy to paint this watercolor for Birchard.
Cythia
McPherson continued to display some of her son's work
in her home after his death. However, today The Hawking
is the only known example of his artwork in existence.
